An Egyptian woman was run over by a minibus allegedly by order of a police officer on Monday. According to local reports, Reda Bakr, 21, was attempting to stop police from arresting her brother's wife.

Bakr stood in front of the bus as it attempted to find the other woman, who was to be arrested for buying a stolen gas tank.

Egypt's Al Masry Al Youm reported that Bakr refused to move from the path of the minibus when an officer ordered the driver to continue over her. The minibus driver said he refused to continue when he had initially hit the woman. The officer then threw him out of the vehicle and forced his assistant to continue driving over the young woman.

The Ministry of Interior has denied the events described by Bakr's family and the minibus driver, saying that the woman refused to get out of the bus and held onto the door before falling under the wheels.

The Egyptian daily reported that tire marks were present on the young woman's body and her skull had been crushed.
