The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) has identified eight U.S. servicemen, missing in action (MIA) from the Korean War.
The bodies of Master Sgt. Alfred H. Alonzo Sr.; Sgt. 1st Class Robert C. Bucheit; Sgt. Francis E. Lindsay; Cpl. Joseph Gregori; Cpl. Darrell W. Scarbrough; Cpl. Homer L. Sisk Jr.; Cpl. Charles E. Sizemore; and Cpl. William E. Wood will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors.
The soldiers were assigned to the U.S. 8th Cavalry Regiment when their unit fought Chinese forces near Unsan, North Korea on the night of Nov. 1-2, 1950. During the battle, almost 400 U.S. soldiers were killed.
It wasn't until 2000 when a joint U.S. and Democratic People's Republic of Korea team, uncovered remains believed to be those of the soldiers. Forensic identification carried out by Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory made the identifications.
