A elderly Japanese man's crime weighed heavily on him as he tried to get away with his loot, Friday.

The 70-year-old man threatened to set off an explosion if the clerk of a post office in the city of Kawagoe did not give him money, reports Reuters

The clerk gave the man a paper bag filled with coins worth 250,000 yen ($2,000). Weighing 22 pounds, the bag broke under the weight. He then tripped and fell as he tried to gather the money.

"The man told police he needed the money to pay back debts," says Tsugio Chigira, deputy head of the Kawagoe police station.

"He didn't really want to be a robber, but felt he had no choice."
