Police in Logan, Utah have reportedly banned a 76-year-old woman from the bus station after she was found giving unwanted birth-control advice to mothers with many children.
Laura Stevens, who was arrested Tuesday for trespassing, a misdemeanor, says the arrest is "wrong and a violation of my First Amendment rights." She also added that she will fight the charges when she appears in Logan's Municipal Court on Tuesday.
AP reports that Stevens has been asking many passengers, most of them Hispanic, to start on a pill as they "were taking over our society."
However, Stevens said she was prompted to give advice to people when she noticed a mother struggling to control her six children. "I felt sorry for her. Maybe she doesn't know that she could get a patch and not have a kid for five years," Stevens said.
An official from the public transport department said that the she was arrested for hindering passengers' right to ride and not be intimidated.
