A dog which accidentally tripped a live power cable, caused some 148 homes in Middlestone Moor, County Durham in England to lose electricity for five hours. It was said that when Bailey, a Straffordshire bull terrier, urinated against a faulty pylon, "There was an almighty explosion and the whole street lit up. I turned round and the dog was on fire," reported his owner, Gary Davies.

Australian power supplier, Energy Australia, is asking the public to stop singing while taking a shower in an attempt to save on electricity and water. The company said singing while taking a bath adds an extra 9. 08 minutes to shower bath and shower time. It listed activities such as singing, daydreaming, shaving and other "nonessential activities" in the shower, are adding to power bills and contribute to global warming.

A woman who was struck by lightning suffered severe burning to her anus as it entered through her mouth and passed right through her body. Natasha Timarovic, 27, was at home cleaning her teeth when lightning hit the building.

Archaeologists have unearthed a tremendous find in Mexico City; an Aztec temple, complete with an altar. Mexico City, Mayor Alejandro Encinas says the ruins date back to the 15th Century and were a part of the empire's main temple.

As almost 50 percent of the Philippines was plunged into darkness from Thursday until late Saturday afternoon because of the ravages brought by Typhoon "Milenyo" (international codename: Xangsase). Interesting scenes of socioeconomic disparity were being played out in the various hotels and the squatting community. While the rich and the ultra-rich checked into first-class hotels ato await power restoration. Those who have less in life had to endure the sweltering heat, not to mention disease carrying mosquito bites.
