The mayor of a coal mining town in the Komi Republic of Russia is asking the government to legalize prostitution with the aim of arresting the increasing number of extremist violence in the region. Igor Shpektor, mayor of Vorkuta, said legalizing the flesh trade would give men another way to spend their time rather than getting involved in racist attacks.

Heather Parsons a student at the university who was been helped by personal coach, Chris Tilghman tells the AP, "It was so easy, taking a step back from the emotions surrounding the issue. . . Italy's parliament speaker is being criticized for sending a birthday card that gushes over Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Fausto Bertinotti, a veteran communist, says in the letter to 80-year-old Castro, "Long live the Dear Comandante. " Castro has been recovering from stomach surgery he underwent two weeks ago.
