William Hawley had been on the run since May 10 when he managed to escape from a Martin Correctional Institution work crew and got rid of his prison clothing.
He then hitched a ride with Charlotte Yoder, telling her his wife was having a baby, his car broke down and he needed a ride to the hospital.
Yoder was not aware she aided a fugitive until she returned home and was greeted by detectives.
Hawley was arrested Monday after he was caught trying to leave a Daytona Beach Sears with a $15.99 pry bar inside a gym bag and a glass pipe containing suspected cocaine residue.
He gave authorities a fake name, but a fingerprint run revealed his true identity.
Hawley was charged with retail theft and possession of cocaine/drug paraphernalia; he is expected to face escape and other charges.
