A former British model who married five times without getting a divorce has avoided a jail sentence for bigamy after her actions were blamed on a mental disorder.
Emily Home, 30, admitted committing bigamy before a Manchester jury on Monday. Her fifth husband, Ashley Baker, 25, of Rochdale, brought her to court after she informed him of her marital status during their honeymoon in 2007.
Aside from Baker, Home married Paul Rigby in 1995, Sean Cunningham and Chris Barratt in 1999, James Matthew in 2002 by using different names and personal information. The first two marriages went unnoticed, the third earned her a warning from the West Yorkshire Police and the fourth led to a six-month jail term in 2006.
Home's lawyer defended her bigamous actions by citing her impulsive behavior to traumas in her life, including the death of her sister when she was 18. The lawyer also told the jury she was sorry for fooling her husbands and undergoing treatment of her bi-polar disorder.
The judge gave her a suspended 10-month jail term.
Meanwhile, Home has moved in with her current boyfriend, Wayne Harper, 30.
