A man from Clinton Township, Michigan spent 30 years of his life and some $60,000 working on his dream, his own flying saucer. The 57-year-old Alfie Carrington, who knows nothing about computers, says he just want to replace automobile with a Jetsons-style vehicle, and not actually take his creation into outer space. Carrington told the Detroit Free Press, "Why drive when you can fly 500mph?"

A hungry polar bear had reportedly cornered a group of Russians at an Arctic weather station for two days. The polar bear had been stranded by melted ice and rampaged through the house. The meteorologists and two gamekeepers "hid in the attic, where they sat two days. They waited until they got permission to shoot the animal, which was given by the environmental ministry in Moscow," according to sources.

What makes a sandwich a sandwich? Could one define the nature of a burrito as simply a Mexican sandwich? A Worchester judge presiding over a legal dispute between Panera Bread Co. and Qdoba Mexican Grill answered these tough culinary questions last week. Panera, a bakery and sandwich making food chain, filed suit against the owners of the White City Shopping Mall for allowing a burrito making business to open shop in the same facility. Panera and the mall had signed a lease agreement in 2001 barring rental space from any other sandwich shop. According to Panera, burritos are sandwiches.

Chinese sociologists are encouraging bolder attitudes towards sex, but puts its foot down on wife-swapping. "Wife-swapping should not be promoted to the public as it will lead to the spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases," the China Daily quoted Zhang Feng, a family planning official.

Each time a cow lets out a burp, more methane gets added to the air. Researchers also say, these belches account for 3% of Britain's greenhouse gases, which in turn, adds to global warming. Now, scientists are exploring ways to deal with this latest environmental hazard -- "burping bovines. " Each cow emits 500 liters of methane a day; leaving researchers trying to figure out ways to reduce this gas-effect from Britain's two million cows.
