A family from Goeppingen, Germany has volunteered to "live in the Bronze Age" for ten days to give researchers an idea of how humans lived during the period. The experiment is also part of an exhibit at the Bad Buchau museum.
In an article published in Ananova.com, Ralf Baumeister, director of the museum, said the Borngraeber family from Goeppingen, Germany has volunteered to wear the same clothes, prepare and eat the same food and live in the same huts as people believed did 3,000 years ago.
It said the family members comprising of husband and wife Otto, 46 and Margret, 47, and their two children Anna, 15 and Stefan, 13, have been preparing for the project for almost two years now.
Margret, who is a teacher, said, "It's all so exciting; we will be left entirely on our own, to fend for ourselves using only replicas of 3,000 year old tools."
Aside from giving scientist an idea of how the people lived in the Bronze age, the experiment is also expected to increase public interest in the museum and hopefully increase the number of visitors.
Baumeister adds,"People get bored looking at exhibitions of empty huts and artifacts hidden behind glass. We hope to establish an emotional connection to the Bronze Age and in that way bring archeology closer to the people."
