A Florida couple fished for hours but didn't catch anything, except a drowning dog. Motoring their 23-foot fishing boat earlier this month on Florida Bay, Ray Truche Jr. and Lisa Largrassa suddenly felt they had hit something in the water. The couple leaned over the boat to find a fat cairn terrier named Tigger. The 5-year-old Tigger had apparently fallen overboard from Diane and Richard Beckman's boat during their trip from Key Largo to Marathon, The Key West Citizen reported Monday.

eople for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) wants Six Flags Great America to scrap its Halloween-themed cockroach-eating promotion, with a spokesman for the animal rights organization calling the amusement park's FrightFest contest "gratuitously cruel. "The park in Gurnee, Ill. , is joining other Six Flags parks in offering unlimited line-jumping privileges to anyone who eats a live Madagascar hissing cockroach, which can grow up to three inches long.

Eating competition phenomenon Takeru Kobayashi has set the world record for eating bratwurst. Kobayashi ate 58 sausages in 10 minutes to demolish the previous record of 34 at the Bratwurst Eating Championship.

A Japanese man made it to the Guinness Book of World Record by eating 58 sausages in 10 minutes at the Bratwurst Eating Championship held in Shebygan, Wisconsin. Takeru Kobayashi smashed the record held previously by Sonya Thomas of 34 sausages in the annual event. Participants were given 10 minutes each to eat as many "brats" sausage as possible.

Conservationists plan to burn the carcass of a 47-foot whale that washed onto a beach near Cape Town, South Africa. Officials are unsure how the 34-ton southern right whale died. Its body washed up onto Kommetjie beach, located about 25 miles south of Cape Town.
