A Clinton man has been accused of drunken driving after he tried to perform unsuccessful driving tricks with his sports utility vehicle onto the ice-covered Mississippi River near Sabula.

According to officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Steven A. Parker, 51, is accused of driving his car off a boat ramp to do "doughnuts" on Sunday. Unfortunately the ice broke and his vehicle sank in 4 feet of water, about 30 feet from shore.

However, Parker and his son, Steven A. Parker, Jr., 28, of Waynesville, N.C., were not hurt in the accident and made it safely back to land.

AP reports that Parker is now charged with third-offense of drunken driving and driving with a revoked license.

A "doughnut" is the act of rotating the rear of the car around the front wheels continuously, thereby creating circular skid marks if done right, and causing lots of tire smoke.
