The Swansea Crown Court in Wales has sentenced a production manager to a one year jail term after it found him guilty of lying that his daughter had "cancer" just to get two months leave of absence with full pay and entitlement to huge expense claims from his employer.
Kevin Parry, 46, who admitted a total of 30 deception charges, was also ordered to pay back his employer and was asked to render 200 hours community work. He was likewise prohibited from applying for any job in the country for a period of two years.
"He had a quite marked dishonest streak and was able to manipulate a situation to gain dishonestly," a judge was quoted saying by the BBC News.
Among the strings of lies, he admitted were the falsification of his qualifications to get employment with big monetary returns. He stated that he had a postgraduate degree from Hallam University when in fact, he had none.
He also presented different invoices, bank charges and receipts that were all faked just to get expense claims from his company.
It was learned that during the time that he was allowed to take leave of absence to allegedly "take care of her cancer-stricken child," he has accepted a high paying job in Norfolk.
In reality, the daughter he claimed to be dying of illness has only mild "asthma."
