ilipino inventor Virgilio Malang invented a vitamin-enriched beer that has garnered awards and recognition worldwide even before it is commercially marketed.

Malang's Vitamin Beer, fortified with Vitamin B Complex, became widely popular at the First International Inventors' Day Convention held recently in Bangkok, Thailand. It also won a gold medal at the European Union-sponsored Genius-Europe competition at the Budapest Fair Center in Hungary and it also won the Romanian Ministry Education and Research Cup few years ago.

"All clear beers have no vitamins. It just contains alcohol, which is converted to sugar which gives you a big tummy, called the beer belly. So I brought back the Vitamin B to make beer a healthier habit," Malang has been quoted as saying.

Malang, president of the Manila Innovation Development Society, already has 42 inventions, which has won for himself 17 international and 19 local awards. In 2003, he was a recipient of P1 million grant from President Macapagal-Arroyo after he won a gold, a silver, and three bronze medal awards at the first Seoul International Invention Fair in Korea. His gold medal invention was for an "effervescing vaginal insert with guava leaf extract."

Malang's inventions that are already commercialized include the lighting ear-pick made of satin plastic (an ear cleaner that collects available light and is reflected directly inside the ear), nose and ear aspirator (declogs ears and noses of infants) and the Feminet range of products for feminine hygiene.

He also invented the K-9 chastity and incontinence belt for dogs, the Lolli Gundi (a cough and cold remedy from herbs called 'lagundi', a gas-level LPG-indicator cart that would determine if a just-delivered LPG tank has been filled to the brim or lacking in content, and an "earlier" warning device (a blinking spiral spring reflector cone for road emergencies that could be seen 200 meters away).
