Filipino youths are finding a way to fight drug-induced "fun" with "Mardi-Drugs" a week-long activity, including cheering and street dance competition in the heart of the Philippines' financial center.
Students from Makati City's 42 public and private school will commence the Mardi Drugs on Wednesday in an effort to launch an anti-drugs campaign not just based on slogans but also to provide the youth with an alternative fun. The activities are in line with the celebration of the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week.
The campaign will kick off with simultaneous rallies to be held in the city with the theme "Sulong Kabataan Laban sa Droga," (Onward Youth Against Drugs).
The best anti-drug slogan will be awarded cash prizes at a program to be held later in the day.
High school students will hold a cheer dancing competition on November 15 at the Glorietta Activity Center, the biggest mall in Makati and site of the accidental bombing recently which killed 11 people and injures scores of others.
On Friday, a Mardi-Drugs street dancing contest will be held at the City Hall quadrangle, city officials say.
