An elderly woman and her dog were set ablaze after being doused with gasoline last Friday allegedly by her son. According to reports on Sunday, the 78-year-old woman survived the ordeal but suffered second and third degree burns covering half of her body. She is in critical condition.

A 13-year-old Arizona boy opened fire on his mother after an argument, shooting and killing her, police say. According to reports Sunday, the mother and son were arguing before she left the house Friday afternoon with her husband. A sibling was also present during the row. Upon the couple's return, the boy, whose name is not being released because he is a minor, began firing at his mother, shooting her multiple times.

A 15-year-old boy doing a paving job here Friday after accidentally being buried by hot asphalt that suddenly unloaded from a truck. Co-workers failed to dig the boy's body out of the heated asphalt and burned their hands in the process. Firefighters who came to the scene on Quarry Road took 14 minutes to recover the dead boy.

A Daytona Beach, Fla. , police officer was fired for demanding free coffee from a Starbucks and threatening to respond slowly if employees didn't give him a free latte. Although Starbucks has a policy of giving police officers free regular coffee, it doesn't hand out specialty coffees without charge.

For Ronald Luri, getting fired for not firing employees was worth it after a jury in Cuyahoga County, Ohio awarded him nearly $47 million in compensation for lost income and punitive damage. The 55-year-old former general manager for trash hauler Republic Services Inc. said he was vindicated upon learning of the award, the largest ever in Ohio's history, issued by a Common Pleas Court jury on Thursday.
