A group of Amazonian Indians, donning feathers and face paint, attacked a representative from Brazil's National Electric Company after he made a presentation explaining the effects a proposed hydroelectric dam would have on traditional communities living in the remote region near the Xingu River. The Associated Press reported that Eletrobras engineer Paulo Fernando Rezende sustained a large gash on his shoulder, but insisted he was okay, after the angry group of Kayapo Indians surrounded him wielding machetes and clubs.

Record Bass Will Never Be Caught Again

May 12, 2008
Dixon Lake is one of the most well known spots for anglers, and it was all thanks to a single bass. Dottie was her name, and - at one point - she weighed 25 pounds, 1 ounces. But she will never be caught again after she was found dead on the shore last Friday. Dottie was a massive fish, measuring 29 1/2 inches. While only 19 pounds at death, experts say she probably spawned her eggs and died soon after. She was most noted for a birthmark beneath her gill, a black dot; hence the name.

Recent bans on salmon fishing on the Weast Coast may have inspired fisherman who depend on the salmon for their livelihoods to corner the market, so to speak, by eliminating their fiercest competitor - the sea lion.

Ten-Year-Old Pickled Fish To Be Auctioned For Over $200,000

A 'fish in formaldehyde,' a piece of work by artist Damien Hirst that has been displayed for almost a decade at a fish and chips shop will go under the hammer at an auction at Bonhams. It is expected to fetch as much as 150,000 GBP ($202,000 USD) when Bonhams opens the bidding later this year. The fish was given by Hirst in 1994 to Darren Walker who went to school with his brother Bradley. Now Walker plans to use the money he will derive from the auction of the artwork to clear his mortgage. Walker ran the shop until it closed in 2002. For eight years the fish was mounted on a wall without a label beside the counter.
