An employee at the National Institute of Health is arrested Monday on charges of spreading false information and reporting a hoax under the Terrorism Prevention Act, after she threatened Florida tax assessors with anthrax following a lost claim for tax relief.
According to her arrest warrant, Michelle Ledgister, 43, a quality control and assurance officer at the agency's Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, left a threatening voicemail message last month at the Broward County Property Appraiser's Office after she lost a claim for tax relief on property she owns in Parkland, Florida.
Ledgister identified herself and her employer on the message stating, "You guys now have anthrax spores once again, so do be careful."
A hazardous-materials team's search of the found no evidence of anthrax.
Ledgister was arrested by FBI agents in Rockville, Md. She faces up to five years in prison, if convicted.
