Denmark's Prince Joachim cried when his wife gave birth Monday. The 39-year-old royal and Princess Marie welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world at 4.57am, after a ten-hour labor at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen.

The new prince - who is the fifth grandchild of Queen Margrethe - weighed 3kg, and measured 49cm in length.

Britain's Princess Eugenie drank beer laced with ketchup for a bet. The 19-year-old royal downed the concoction after dancing on tables at the Lizard Lunge club near Surin Beach in Thailand, where she is currently on a gap year trip.

An onlooker told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "The princess was with a couple of girls and a guy. One of her friends squirted some ketchup into a glass of beer and challenged her to drink it. They all fell about laughing as Eugenie swigged it."

A New York University student came up with a novel way to test New Yorker's willingness to help strangers by using 10-inch tall cardboard robots that are lost and need help getting to their destinations.

"I wondered: could a human-like object traverse sidewalks and streets along with us, and in so doing, create a narrative about our relationship to space and our willingness to interact with what we find in it?" Kacie Kinzer, a Tisch School of the Arts student, said in a statement posted on her Website tweenbots.com.

Two former New York City Police officers have been sentenced to life in prison following a 2006 conviction for eight murders on behalf of the powerful Lucchese Mafia family while they were policemen.

Stephen Carapacca, 67, and Louis Eppolito, 61, are accused of committing the crimes between 1986 and 1990. Sentencing after their 2006 conviction was delayed because a judge ruled that the statute of limitations had expired on the murders. An appeals court reversed that judge's decision last year.
