Dogs have been known as man's best friends for decades, and Jamie Hanson's 13-year-old dog, Jesse, has lived up to it. A specially trained golden retriever-German shepherd mix, Jesse, not only rescued her owner from fire but also tried to save the fellow pet, a cat, before dying of asphyxiation. Hanson, who had lost her leg in a car accident three years ago, was sitting in the couch watching television when the cat ran over the back of the couch and jumped onto a table, tipping a candle on it thereby lighting the artificial plants on fire.

Fire engulfed a 40,000 square foot warehouse used to grow four percent of America's yield of hops -- used to flavor beer. The affect on brewers and beer prices are unknown but fire could end up costing $3. 5 million to $4 million in losses.

In a bid to curb widespread corruption in the public and private sector, the Russian government has warned that people who give or take bribes will "burn in the flames of hell. " The warning was carried in leaflets distributed freely in every home and also advises the public on what to do if they are asked for a bribe.

According to a Chinese newspaper, a Chinese headmaster ended up setting fire to classrooms after he cooked dog meat for colleagues. The Beijing Youth Daily reported on Friday that ten classrooms containing computers, televisions and textbooks burnt down, leaving nearly 100 children unable to go to school.

After a man failed an attempt to put out a trash fire, he decided fill the trailer of his truck with the burning garbage, attach it to his truck with a rusty chain and drag it away from the front of a house - which was full of dogs and sleeping teenagers. The AP reports police say Michael Dearsman, 39, prevented "heavy damage to the two-story structure and possible loss of life. "
