Japan's penchant for robots is coming to the aid of allergy sufferers. Weathernews Inc has created 12-inch spherical robots with eyes that flash colors to alert of the presence of cedar or cypress pollen. The eyes flash white, green, blue, purple or red depending on pollen concentration.

A Croatian TV journalist spent $50,000 for dental treatment just to keep his viewer-winning smile which he claims made him famous. Damir Matkovic said he was forced to spent that huge amount after he discover he was suffering from periodontitis - a condition where the gums become inflamed and can lead to tooth loss.

"Better convert it into fertilizer than let the consuming public suffer," stressed the National Meat Inspection Commission (NMIC) as it ordered Wednesday the burning of 10 tons (10,000 kilos) of rotten ham. The meat seized by police authorities during a sting operation at Pasay City, south of the capital Manila. The 10 tons of processed ham were contained in 20-foot long van and were being unloaded in front of the house of the consignee known as Susan Co. The foul odor coming from the van led to the discovery of the seized pork, which the NMIC declared as unfit for human consumption.

A 71-year-old El Paso woman miraculously escaped a 150 feet fall with only a few non-life threatening injuries. Helene Crosser was driving on Loop 375 in West Texas to watch the sunrise early Sunday when she lost control of her pickup truck and it hit a rock and tumbled over a 150-foot cliff. Crosser remained stuck in her wrecked vehicle for seven hours until a motorist spotted a flash of light reflecting from afar and alerted the authorities, the AP reports.

In a crazy incident, a 22-year-old British soldier, who recently returned from Iraq, suffered internal injuries after he lit a small firecracker that he inserted into his buttocks. The man suffered burns and other unspecified internal injuries in the incident on Sunday in Sunderland, 275 miles north of London during the celebration of Bonfire Night, an event in Brittan.
