A Florida city is now considering a ban on Chinese-made products in their jurisdiction in the wake of the wave of recalls of toys and even pet food.

The Chinese-made products that the local government is considering banning include: computers, coffee makers, artificial Christmas trees, and toys.

Mayor John Mazziotti suggested the ban after the latest increase recalls.

According to Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Mazziotti questioned the quality and food safety of Chinese-made products.

If the proposed ban is made through a city ordinance, this central Florida town of 170,000 residents would be the first in the nation to hold a protest against Chinese-made products.

But, analysts said that even without the ban, residents can make their own choice in buying goods whether it is made abroad, in China or patronizing U.S. made products.

Only the Florida government can impose such restrictions.

An ABC report said that the ordinance only applies to Chinese products costing more than $ 50.

The proposal came after millions of Chinese-made toys containing lead paint were recalled in August.
