The son of Rep. Allen Boyd (D-FL) has been arrested for allegedly smuggling illegal immigrants.

The congressman released a statement on Tuesday about the arrest of his 30-year-old son, John Boyd, in Wilcox, Arizona.

Border patrol agents found a 6-year-old girl in the passenger seat and four people hiding in the bed of the younger Boyd's pick-up on Sunday. Agents also found rocks of crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a loaded pistol in the truck.

The federal complaint against Boyd says he has admitted to picking up the four adults, who also admitted to being illegal aliens. The immigrants were reportedly planning to pay $3,000 each to be brought be smuggled across the border.

Rep. Boyd represents the 2nd congressional district in Florida. He is seeking a seventh term.
