A confused teen opened a birthday present from his mom, only to find the Nintendo DS box stuffed with rocks and Chinese newspapers.

Tampa mom Jodi Wykle played a little birthday prank on her son, giving him the Guitar Hero game for Nintendo DS, even though he didn't have a DS yet. Next, she gave him another box, this one with a Nintendo DS in it-or so she thought.

When he opened it, he discovered the box was full of rocks, but that part of the prank wasn't his mom's idea, Tampa Bay news WTSP-TV reported.

"When he opened it, he was pulling the seal off, my sister-in-law carries a pocket knife and she opened it and that's when he pulled it out and it was Chinese newspaper and a bunch of rocks," Wykle told WTSP-TV.

Wykle contacted the local Wal-Mart where she bought the game system, but workers there said it wasn't their problem and that she should contact Nintendo, who told her roughly the same thing, Yahoo Games reported.

Wal-Mart eventually caved, admitting the item had been purchased and returned before. They issued Wykle a full refund and a $20 gift card.

In related news, the Consumerist reported Tuesday that one of their readers in Texas bought a Macbook Pro from a Best Buy, only to find a paving stone inside the box.
