Even if the Florida Gators end up on the losing end of Monday night's championship game against Ohio State, at least they are richer.
It's not that Ohio State's football program is not bringing in the dough. In fact, Ohio State Football brings in enough cash to put them at number three in the nation as far as revenues go. But they are also big spenders.
Ohio State's revenues only exceed their profits by $28.5 million making them only the seventh richest team going into the championship this year. The program spent $32.3 million. Florida is Number 5 with a $32.4 million operating profit.
But that is not always an indicator of a winner. So far, many bowl game winners this year have fallen behind their opponents financially. Of the 31 games played, 13 of the winners had smaller pockets than the other team.
