A woman who was allegedly severely burned during a Bacardi promotion is suing the wine and spirit-making company. She claims the product is defective and dangerous.

Danielle Alleyne filed a lawsuit in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court stating that she was injured after she was doused with flaming rum at a Miami nightclub in August 2002.

The suit read, "The burning rum stuck to her skin and continued to burn as she fell to the floor and tried to put herself out." It goes on to say the Ms. Alleyne suffered second and third degree burns on her face, neck, chest and back and that she is disabled and disfigured for the rest of her life.

The incident occurred when a bartender was pouring shots and a customer lit a menu on fire, which was placed in the stream of alcohol. The bartender was using Bacardi 151 to pour the shots when it turned into a flame-thrower, sending flaming rum all over Ms. Alleyne.

The lawsuit claims Bacardi 151 proof rum "emits a high volume of combustible and explosive vapor" making it "unreasonably dangerous" and unsatisfactory.
