Police authorities arrested a local flower shop owner who was found to have been growing the illegal kind of greenery.
Jeffrey Izard, 52, was discovered to have been cultivating marijuana in an apartment located right above the Kinzel Flower Shop. Officials said that the apartment, which was Izard's residence, contained grown plants, as well as equipment used to cultivate it.
Police also found similar items at a house owned by Izard, located across the street.
Local police arrested Izard, along with his 22-year old daughter Chelsea N. Izard, who lived with her father. Also apprehended were Izard's sons Chad, 30, and Matthew, 24. Both sons were reported to live nearby, reported the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Reuben R. Escalera, 30, the tenant living in a nearby house owned by Izard, was also arrested for growing the plant.
All suspects were charged with possessing between 30 and 500 grams of marijuana, with intent to deliver. They were primarily held in lieu of a $15,000 bail, but were eventually set free upon payment, as reported by the AP.
Police believed that the marijuana was being cultivated for more than personal consumption. They added that although they were familiar with the flower shop, they had always acknowledged it as a legitimate operation.
According to Chief of Detectives Lt. David Hayes, the police were made aware of the operation by means of a tipped phone call to a DEA office located in St. Louis.
