According to a Romanian newspaper, a local second division soccer club has sold one of its players for a lump of meat. The transaction was made when UT Arad sold defender Marius Cioara to fourth division side Regal Horia for almost thirty pounds of meat.

Officials say the Los Angeles middle school attended by renowned attorney Johnnie Cochran Jr. will be renamed in his honor. The Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to rename the Mt. Vernon Middle School after the attorney, who was best known for his representation of O. J. Simpson.

A former high school football coach was run down and critically injured after he yelled at a speeding driver to slow down in a mall parking lot. According to Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino, Morteza Bakhtiari, 26, of Costa Mesa was taken into custody late Friday at his home, 24 hours after hitting John Royston with a BMW at the Aliso Viejo Town Center and fleeing.

A group working to keep Britain clean wants soccer players to stop spitting. The charity "Keep Britain Tidy," in a letter to the head of the players' union, says players spitting on the field sets a bad example for children.
