A North Carolina man who was hit in the left eye by a foul ball at a recent minor league game will lose the eye.

Carroll Master, his wife and two-year-old son, and about a dozen others went to a Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball game Friday where Master was struck upon returning to his seat from a concession stand.

The foul ball crushed his left eye and broke the bones around it. After more than five hours in surgery to try to reconstruct the eye, it was clear that the eye was damaged too badly to fix. He plans to be fitted for a prosthetic eye.

Master told the News-Record news organization that he and his family will never attend another baseball game, something that has always been a fun family past time for him.
