A college student has survived a fall from a third story window, after he was sleepwalking at his fraternity house at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The student broke eight ribs, bruised his lung, shattered a kidney, and injured his spleen in the fall.
Jonathan Platek, 19, explains, "I couldn't tell you what it was like because I was sleepwalking. The scariest thing was waking up in the hospital and I didn't know what had happened."
While Platek's mother says it was the stress of school that makes her son sleepwalk, they both admit the sophomore had "a few alcoholic beverages" that night.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Urbana police Sgt. Bryant Seraphin investigated the incident. He said Platek had consumed some alcohol but does not know what his blood-alcohol level was at the time. Stress and alcohol can contribute to sleepwalking, said Dr. Jaime Villanueva, a sleep disorder physician at the Edward Hospital Sleep Center.
