A Florida couple has traded the right to name their baby for a $100 gas card. David Partin, 26, told the Orlando Sentinel that "times are rough," so to have some free gas is worth giving up the right to name his baby. That's why he called into the 96. 5 FM (WHTQ) radio contest to offer a suggestion in the contest for the most interesting thing to trade for the gift card. He said the DJs could name his baby, due in December.

Parents watching a schoolboy rugby match Sunday were angry and appalled after hardcore pornography interrupted the scheduled programming. The Prime Channel, a free broadcast station, was showing a Grass Roots Rugby show when they claim a distribution fault caused the "inappropriate material," from a pay-per-view channel to be aired on the wrong station.

The resident of a small island off the coast of Scotland has declared its independence from the United Kingdom. Stuart Hill, the owner of the island, wants it to be a crown dependency, similar to the Channel Islands. According to a statement on his Web site, Hill, who owns Forvik, a 2. 5-acre island in the Shetland Islands, declared that he no longer recognized the authority of the British government or the European Union.

A Colorado hiker lost in southern Germany's Bavarian Alps for almost three days used her white bra to signal for help and it led rescuers to the ledge where she was stranded. Jessica Bruinsma, 24, was hiking with a friend near the Austrian border on June 16 when she lost her way due to bad weather and fell to a narrow ledge.

A 1954 masterpiece from Pablo Picasso broke auction records in Australia when it sold for $6. 9 million. "Sylvette 1954" was auctioned off at Deutscher-Menzies Galleries in Kensington on Wednesday. Gallery art head Tim Abdullah had predicted the painting would fetch between $5 and $ 7 million.
