A Dutch man played a "good samaritan" by giving an unconscious French mastiff mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Police said neighbors found the 18-month-old dog hanging from a balcony in the town of Zevenaar from its leash and collar. Neighbors and bystanders cut the animal loose but found the dog was unconscious and was not breathing.

An anti-racism group is angry over a French dictionary's definition of colonization, claiming it glorifies the country's brutal legacy. The widely-used reference book, Petit Robert 2007, says: "To colonize: colonizing a country in order to enhance it, exploit its wealth. " The MRAP group said the dictionary editors should take into account all "experiences, suffering and damages caused by this crime against humanity. "

A new book reveals intimate details about the sex lives of French presidents, including their adultery and philandering. "Sexus Politicus" reveals that a variety of high-powered politicians have had extra-marital affairs. The books claims that President Jacques Chirac and his predecessors Francois Mitterrand and Valery Giscard D'Estaing were able to keep a number of lovers, partly due to an ambivalent media.

A new study says the French work the least hours of any country on Earth, while South Koreans might want to ask for more vacation time, coming in at number 1. While South Koreans work an average of 2,317 hours a year, Americans work their fair share at 1,957.

A man in China has trademarked a silhouette of French captain Zinedine Zidane headbutting Italian defender Marco Materazzi in the FIFA World Cup final. Zhao Xiaokai wants to sell the image for use on clothing, shoes, hats and beer products, and hopes it will fetch as much as $125,000.
