A life-sized sculpture of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud depicted as hanging from a noose alarmed residents of Grand Rapids, who saw it hanging from the top of the Trade Center Building - a scene that very accurately resembled a suicide case.
The sculpture, "Man Hanging Out" created by David Cerny, which showed a life-sized body of a man hanging from a rod by his hand, is currently touring the world and being displayed in a number of cities in Europe and the United States.
The residents of Grand Rapids, however, were not informed of the sculpture's arrival. Calls were made to the police and the fire department, reported the Associated Press.
The Open Concept Gallery owner presented a permit to officials upon their arrival. The permit granted the gallery permission for the sculpture's display, as well as its placement.
The sculpture was first made to represent the human condition and the need for a conscious decision on whether to live life, or to simply let go.
"We wanted people to notice this great piece and, since nobody saw us putting it up, I think it surprised people," the Grand Rapids Press quoted Lisa McManus, spokeswoman for the gallery. She claimed that it was "very realistic."
Sigmund Freud, who is depicted by the sculpture, is known as the "father of psychoanalysis."
