Two days after he admitted incest and rape, but denied murder, Austrian Josef Fritzl turned around and took responsibility for the death of his son Michael, the product of his incestuous relationship with daughter Elizabeth.
He also acknowledged having enslaved his daughter, whom he had sexually abused for over 3,000 times. Fritzl said, "I plead guilty to all the charges in the indictment."
Judge Andre Hummer asked Fritzl why he failed to heed Elizabeth's request to secure medical help for baby Michael who was suffering from breathing problems. Fritzl replied, quoted by BBC, "I was hoping the little one would survive but I should have done something. I don't know why I didn't help. I just lost sight (of the issue)."
Fritzl changed his please after he listed to 11 hours of Elizabeth's pre-recorded testimony wherein she described in details over 20 years of suffering under the hands of her father. He also apologized for his crimes.
With his admission to all the charges, the trial is expected to end soon since the jury will no longer need to issue a verdict. The only remaining action needed from the Austrian court is for the judges to sentence the 73-year old Fritzl, whom a court doctor recommended to undergo psychiatric treatment in a medical facility.
