Paper Clip Sells for $173 On Auction Site

A New Zealand teenager sells a small, red paper clip on an Internet auction site for $173 during "a boring day of work. " Buyer Keith Brock, of Auckland, grabs the clip from auction site TradeMe with the winning bid yesterday. The transaction proves to be harmless fun, as Brock and 19 year-old Rhys White donate the $173 to the Auckland SPCA.

German Defense Minister Wants Unemployed to Play War Games

German Defense Minister, Peter Struck, told the Deutsche Welle that "using [unemployed] civilians instead of soldiers would save money," when exercising war games. According to the report, military exercises can take up to 400 people, to act as civilians, enemies, and non-combatants.

A mother is requesting a recall of her son's high school yearbook after he is featured in a picture with a leash around his neck. In Boynton Beach High's 2005 yearbook, senior Robert Richards is featured in the school's superlatives wearing a leash being held by his girlfriend, Melissa Finley.

The editors of Merriam-Webster dictionaries got more than 3,000 entries when they asked visitors to their Web site to submit their favorite words that aren't in the dictionary. Arthur Bicknell, a spokesman for the Springfield-based dictionary publisher, admited, "It was a lot of fun. We weren't expecting so many. They only had two weeks. "
