The taboo of interracial dating is waning in the U.S., a new Gallup Poll reveals Tuesday.
The survey, which is based on responses of 1,116 total adults, reveals that as generations from the 1980s, 90s, and 00s get older...the racial tensions from the 1940s, 50s, 60s and early 70s are not carrying over.
Many attribute the popularity of hip-hop culture in films, fashion, and music as the main reasons why interracial dating is more acceptable.
There is no longer even a double standard on the gender involved, with 71-percent of the entire sample approving of a black man dating a white woman and 75-percent backing a white man dating a black woman.
In all, 69-percent of Hispanics say they have dated someone of a different racial or ethnic group, 52-percent of blacks, and 45-percent of whites.
There is some gender difference among blacks, with 64-percent of African-American men saying they have dated a non-black and 42-percent of black women saying the same.
