As Cuban President Fidel Castro is struggling with death while in hospital, online gamblers are cashing in the fate of the leader. Castro is confined to a bed after undergoing a surgery for intestinal bleeding. Last week, he temporarily relinquished powers to his younger brother.

According to a report published Thursday, people online are placing bets on which day or month the 79-year-old Cuban president will die.

A report by an online edition of the Miami Herald, said that those placing $100 on Castro dying this month will reap $350 if he does. Those betting $100 he'll die in December will take home $600 if they're correct.

The Website BetUS.com has allowed members to gamble on Castro's death since last fall, the Miami Herald said. The betting site is licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission on the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, Canada.

BetCRIS.com, another Web site, is accepting bets on whether Castro will make another live appearance by Aug. 13, his 80th birthday. Sixty percent of the wagers come from people in Miami, the Herald said, and the majority put their money on Castro not appearing in public again.
