In a freak accident, an Albany police officer shot herself in the wrist with her own gun, she apparently kept it under her pillow for protection. According to Dougherty County officials, Sgt. Kinshishi Adams, 34, had to undergo an intensive surgery to repair the damage caused by the shot.

The incident happened Sunday night, when Adam was sleeping and her service weapon she stored near her head discharged.

Authorities are not suspecting any underlying issue but an investigation into the accident has been launched.
