Diamonds are forever and what could be better than turning the remains of a loved one into one, says a daughter who wants to keep the memories of her father. However, her mother contends and wants the cremated ashes of her husband to be traditionally buried in a cemetery.
The dispute between the two women has escalated so much that now they want the court to decide what should be done, the AFP reports.
According to the daughter, her father had wanted to be immortalized as a diamond, but the mother dismisses that claim.
The technique of turning cremated ashes into gems originated in the U.S. but has become increasingly popular in European nations also. During the chemical processes, the residual carbon from the ashes are subjected to excessively high temperature and pressure, conditions and synthesized into a stone.
The court in the southwestern city of Wiesbaden is expected to give its ruling next Tuesday.
