In a bid to curb the ongoing surge of indiscipline in many children, officials in Germany have proposed handing out punishments to the parents when their children break the law.

Politicians with Germany's Social Democratic Party say they believe that fines of $67 to $133 should be issued to parents who do not take any effort to prevent their children from missing school or indulging in various crimes.

Deutsche Welle reported Monday that the proposal has been welcomed by members of multiple parties and youth advocates and many members believe that it could soon be passed as a law.

Calling the proposal a "political nonsense," many officials also believe that it is better to conduct parenting classes than offer legal punishment for parents.
