Police in Germany is trying to solve the mystery of Karl, a self-acclaimed military pilot, who has been repeatedly found in a confused state in the city of Heidelberg this week.

The London Telegraph reports that the man, who is about 5 feet 5 inches tall, has amnesia but speaks fluent English. He also adds German words into conversations and is believed to be British.

Karl, who says he once flew military planes, is balding and has a 10-inch scar on his stomach. The nursing home in Heiligkreuzsteinach, where he is being cared for, calls him "the pilot" because of his knowledge of military planes.

Karl mysteriously turned up in Mannheim train station in June 2006, did not have any knowledge about who he was or where he came from.
