Bidingen, Germany (AHN)- A thief in Germany, riddled with guilt for nabbing a bicycle apologizes in a letter and pays for the full cost of the item.

The bicycle was stolen in the Bavarian village of Bidingen. Authorities in neighboring Marktoberdorf called for witnesses of the crime to come forward.

The victim then promptly received an anonymous letter from the guilty party with 400 euros in cash which is the exact value of the bicycle according to the police.

"The thief also told the man he was sorry he couldn't remember where he'd left the bike," said police spokesman Gerhard Kreis told Reuters. "He may just have been a thoroughly honest person who saw the error of his ways. You still get them you know."
