A group of German builders have obtained funds to begin constructing a pyramid that will serve as a private memorial for "those of all nationalities and religions."
A group, led by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, will build a new pyramid about 10 times as large as the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and will be "the largest structure our civilization has ever built."
"The Great Pyramid can potentially be any human being's grave or memorial site," according to the group. "Outlasting personal physical existence is something that the Egyptian pyramids could promise only a few, but this pyramid is open to every individual. Rather than hastily burying one another or allowing our ashes to be scattered, as a small stone in the pyramid we can remain part of our species' constantly shifting and ever-expanding tableau."
The construction will take an estimated 30 years, but will offer a burial sport for about $960 USD (700 EUR). The group has begun taking reservations, and has already received requests from as far away as the United States and Taiwan.
