For the second time in three months, a high school student has had her prosthetic limbs stolen.
Sixteen-year-old Melissa Huff lost her leg in an accident after she was hit by a driver as she was standing in front of her middle school. She uses her artificial limbs for everyday use and to participate on the softball team at Arcadia High School.
One limb is valued at $16,000 and the other at $12,000.
Huff's mother, Lisa, said when she came home Tuesday, her daughters' room was a mess and the legs were missing. "I was picking up my little brother from school when my mom called me and asked where I left the two prosthetic legs," Huff told Reuters. "I knew right then that it had happened again."
Her limbs were initially stolen in November after thieves broke into the home and stole the prosthetic legs. Melissa's prosthetist and a local real estate company donated the resources for a new set.
Police have said they are interviewing Melissa's friends and relatives as well as neighbors.
