Ken Ortmann, who owns a local tavern is vying for city's lawmakers to lower the penalties for public urination before the Feb. 25 Mardi Gras Parade. Ortmann says, "There's a difference between going in the middle of the street, in front of God and country, and somebody who is behind a Dumpster.

The spirit of Christmas did not deter a thief from taking about $8,000 and checks from a New Jersey church. Police and church officials say a collection basket was placed at the altar of the Church of the Guardian Angels while Monsignor James Moran went to the front door to chat with parishioners.
