A 75-year-old wife is facing murder charges after shooting her sleeping husband to death because she was fed up with his alleged mental abuse.

Arkansas resident Myrtle Marie Walter confessed to Benton County police that she shot Paul Walter, 74, with a .357-caliber revolver thrice on Saturday while he was sleeping in their bedroom. Waiving her right to an attorney, Walter told detectives she killed her husband also because he wanted sex.

Walter's daughter, Laura Tucker, reported the shooting to 911 at 2:35 a.m. on Saturday after her mother called her at 2:15 a.m. informing her about the shooting.

Neighbors described the Walters as a pleasant couple and never saw any sign of trouble between the two.
