A 77-year-old grandmother seeking treatment for her persistent headaches was more than surprised to discover the cause of it: a bullet in her head. Equally surprised were her children and doctors who learned that the bullet might have been there for the past 64 years.
Recalling the 1943 incident to the Yangtse Evening Post, Jin Guangying, 77 tells how she was shot by Japanese troops while she was on her way to deliver food supplies to her guerilla father and his friends.
Jin remembers her recovery under her mother's care and thereafter long story of headaches and occasional fits, without ever having given a second thought to the bullet.
Jin later learned that the bullet had gone through the arm of a person beside her before hitting her head.
Although the doctor who performed the surgery on Jin was amazed at the duration for which the bullet was there he offers an explanation to her survival.
"The fact that the bullet lost strength and speed passing through another person, and that the point it struck is not vital, may explain her survival," he told the Post.
