Separatist group Dukhtaran-e-Millat, or Daughters of Faith, has vowed to stop couples from celebrating Valentine's Day in Kashmir. The group is known for fiercely opposing Western-style romance.
Aasiya Andrabi, leader of the group, said in a statement, "We will not allow anyone to observe Valentine's Day as it does nothing but spread immorality among youth."
She also said the holiday was against the Islamic teachings of the Muslim culture. The group kicked off its crusade by raiding shops and taking Valentine's Day cards to create a large bonfire.
The group's purpose is to rid the region of immorality and Western influence. They've smeared black paint on movie posters in the past.
The Kashmir region is socially conservative as a whole, however, in recent years, couple have begun to openly date.
