An alleged carjacker who tried to rob a couple off their car ended up being shot himself. Harold Levar Jeffcoat, 29, was shot as the woman sitting in the passenger seat of the car fired five unfocused shots at him in self-defense. But only one could finally make it to the target - right at the buttocks of Jeffcoat.
According to authorities handling the case, the incident happened Saturday night as the couple was getting into the car at a Wal-Mart in suburban northeast Richland County. Just then, Jeffcoat stuck a gun into the stomach of the man and asked him to hand over the car keys.
The woman, whose name was not revealed, acted timely and pulled a gun from the glove compartment and fired the shots at Jeffcoat.
Revealing the incident to The State, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott hailed the couple as heroes. However, he emphasized that it doesn't mean that police wants people to go out and "just start shooting."
Jeffcoat was arrested Sunday at the hospital where he was being treated for gunshot wound.
