A judge in Ohio has convicted a 17-year-old boy for killing his mother and trying to kill his father in revenge for taking away his Halo 3 video game in October 2007.
Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge issued the verdict on Daniel Petric, who shot dead Susan Petric, 43, and also shot but did not kill his father, Mark, 46. The conviction carries a possible sentence of life imprisonment without parole.
Prosecutors said the shooting stemmed from the parents' confiscation of his Halo 3, a violent video game that involves shooting alien invaders. They said the shooting was premeditated and not because Petric became insane from his addiction to the Microsoft game, as claimed by his attorney.
Petric's father testified against his son in court, which tried the teen as an adult.
